Dry mouth and Sjögren's syndrome

Working with your doctors

If you have a condition such as Sjögren’s syndrome, having an open and honest relationship with the doctors who treat your symptoms can make a difference in how you feel. In fact, most people with Sjögren’s syndrome see more than one doctor for their care. That’s because symptoms develop over time or you may be coping with other related diseases.

Managing your treatment team

People who have Sjögren’s syndrome may ultimately learn their diagnosis from any one of a variety of doctors, including rheumatologists, primary care providers, eye specialists, ear, nose, and throat specialists, or dentists.

However, having one doctor coordinate your care helps save you time and frustration. He or she may be the one to refer you to various specialists, review test results with you and evaluate recommendations from other doctors.
