Dry mouth and Sjögren's syndrome
Sjögren’s syndrome treatment
Sjögren’s syndrome is a chronic (long-lasting or lifelong) disease. While there’s no cure for dry-mouth symptoms of Sjögren’s syndrome, there are treatment options, including over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and prescription medicines that may help ease the symptoms of dry mouth. If you have dry-mouth symptoms related to Sjögren’s syndrome, you and your doctor may be considering a treatment plan that includes lifestyle changes as well as OTC and prescription medications.
The difference between topical and systemic treatments for
Sjögren’s syndrome
Many OTC medicines are topical treatments. Systemic treatments, such as EVOXAC® (cevimeline HCl), work by stimulating the production of your body’s own natural saliva. These treatments do not replace OTC medicines, but they may decrease your need for OTC medicines. EVOXAC is available by prescription only to treat the symptoms of dry mouth in patients with Sjögren’s syndrome. See how EVOXAC can help.
